My Current Project

CAW Version Not Compatible (fix)

In some cases, after installing CAW tool, or after patching, or after adding a new EP, you may receive a "version not compatible" error. Along with this error you will be instructed to uninstall your current instance of Create A World and reinstall the "new version". However, on the EA site, there is no mention of what version is currently being offered. Never mind that. Simply install what is there, as you really don't have any other option. If, after following and completing these instructions you still receive the "version not compatible" error message, then follow the steps below. It has worked for me every time I have encountered this problem. But, please note that an uninstall and re-install of the CAW program should fix the problem. And remember . . .
BACK UP YOUR FILES before uninstalling  :)  Good luck.

1) (You may have to turn off UAC -- User Account Control.)

     Backup the Default.ini file.
     To find this file, locate your Sims3 game folder. If you are using a x32 based OS, your path will
     look something like this:
       C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\[Latest EP or SP intalled]\Game\Bin
     I am using a 64 based OS, and my path looks like this:
       C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts (x86)\ The Sims Generations\Game\Bin

The file in the first line that is highlighted in blue is the file you need.

2)  Locate the Default.ini file in the CAW folder (in Program files, not Documents).
        x32 C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Create a World Tool
        x64 C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Create a World Tool

    Open the file with notepad and locate the section that looks like this:

     [Version]
languages=en-us,fr-fr,es-es,es-mx,de-de,it-it,nl-nl,sv-se,da-dk,no-no,fi-fi,pl-pl,pt-pt,hu-hu,cs-cz,pt-br,el-gr,ru-ru,ko-kr,zh-hk,ja-jp
GameVersion = 1.13.3.013037
CompatVersion = 13
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 10

    Copy the last 2 lines (CompatVersion and WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion) and close

    notepad (without saving).

 3) Open the Default.ini file in the Sims 3 game folder (that you located in step 1) with notepad.

     Locate the section that looks like this:

     [Version]
languages=en-us,fr-fr,es-es,es-mx,de-de,it-it,nl-nl,sv-se,da-dk,no-no,fi-fi,pl-pl,pt-pt,hu-hu,cs-cz,pt-br,el-gr,ru-ru,ko-kr,zh-hk,ja-jp
GameVersion = 8.0.152.011001
CompatVersion = 13
WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 10

  (In the event of a compatibility issue, the numbers in these last 2 lines will be different from those
 copied from the CAW Default.ini file)

    Paste over the last 2 lines with those you copied from the CAW Default.ini file so that
    the number values now match.

    Close the file and accept the "save" option.

4) Turn UAC back on if you turned it off in step 1.

Note: Before patching to a new version, restore the Default.ini from the backup or the pach will fail.
          If you did not back up the Default.ini file and need to patch your game,  download the full
          version of the patch.

I have Windows 7. Despite turning off UAC and removing the read only property on the files, it still replies with "Access Denied" when I try to save the corrected ini file.

Try to save the file in a different folder and then copy paste it into /program files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin. That is what i did and worked for me. You might only get a prompt when copy/paste but it will allow.
